In coordination with Tom’s Dive & Swim and Scuba Schools International (SSI), the Austin Aquanauts are offering the SSI Boat Diving Specialty at a special reduced price for a limited time.
Enrollment is limited to 12 participants, so early registration is encouraged.
Why the Special Pricing?
The SSI Boat Diving Specialty requires two (2) open water boat dives to complete certification. Because these dives must be conducted from a boat—and therefore involve additional logistics—we’ve reduced the course price to help offset that requirement.
The boat dives themselves are a separate cost, paid directly by the divers at the time of the dives. This approach keeps the course accessible while allowing flexibility in how and when those dives are completed.
Completing Your Boat Dives
The preferred and most fun option is to complete your certification dives during the July 26th Boat, Bubbles, and Burgers Event. This event provides an excellent real‑world training environment and a great Aquanauts experience.
If you are unable to attend the July 26th event, a separate charter dive on Lake Travis will be arranged to complete the required dives.
Either way, you’ll receive the same instruction, supervision, and certification outcome.
About the Course
Many of the world’s best dive sites can only be accessed by boat. The SSI Boat Diving Specialty teaches you how to dive safely, comfortably, and confidently from a variety of boats—from small personal craft to larger charter and liveaboard vessels.
During this course, you’ll learn:
- Boat diving procedures and etiquette
- Gear setup, staging, and storage on boats
- Safe entries and exits
- Surface and crew communication
- Planning dives in boat‑based environments
This training is ideal for divers who want to travel, join charter dives, or simply feel more confident when diving away from shore.
Upon completion, you’ll earn your SSI Boat Diving Specialty certification, which also counts toward SSI Specialty Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, and Master Diver recognition levels.
Good to Know
- Open Water Diver certification (or equivalent) required
- Two open water boat dives required for certification
- Boat dives are an additional cost and not included in the course fee
