Annual Polar Bear Dive
Who among you has the gumption to take on Lake Travis in January? Who among you doesn't know what "gumption" means and if you had it you might need an inoculation? Gumption means that you have courage, spunk, and guts. Gumption is not regularly required for scuba diving. Unless, you only dive the warm waters of the Caribbean and anything under 80 degrees sends a shiver down your spine. In that case, you might want to bring a spine re-enforcer (an awesome dive buddy) and the proper dive gear for water that is a bit cooler than those Caribbean hot spots.
On New Year's Day, at 11:00 AM, we'll meet at Mansfield Dam Park to prepare for our first dive of the new year. At its current low 60s temperature, this dive is accessible to wet suits and dry suits alike. Though, it might cool off a bit more in the next few days. We'll have warm fluid to warm up your insides (hot chocolate, apple cider, etc.). As well as warm water to pour down your wet suits (you'll love this).
There is a nominal Dive Club fee to cover snacks and warm drinks for this event (there is also an entry fee to Mansfield Dam Park). We suggest you bring plenty of towels, robes, slippers, sweats and such to get yourself nice and warm quickly after the dives.
This promises to be a lot of fun and we're looking forward to seeing you there!
